There is not much of a technical difference between what Intel is going to sell as the Pentium D and as the new Pentium Extreme Edition 840, except for Hyper Threading. While Pentium D does not support Hyper Threading, the Extreme Edition will support two threads per processor core. In contrast to the current Pentium 4 Extreme Edition at 3.73 GHz, the new version will remain at a maximum Smithfield clock speed of 3.2 GHz and FSB800.
