Intel cuts Pentium prices

As reported leaks have indicated, Intel Corp. has slashed prices to counter a drop in chip demand. Pentium III desktop CPUs have been cut as much as 42 percent, but Pentium 4 chips have also been discounted. In volume, the 1.5GHz Pentium 4 has moved from $819 to $644. The 1.4GHz and 1.3GHz Pentium 4 chips have been cut by 23 and 18 percent. The 1 GHz Pentium IIIs have been reduced from $465 to $268. Pentium III mobile processors have been reduced by as much as 33 percent and Celeron desktop processors as much as 34 percent. The Pentium III Xeon has been cut 17 percent, to $425.
