Intel confirms price cuts, AMD reacts
Widely anticipated price cuts were instituted by Intel Corp. this weekend. More will follow at month's end. In lots of a thousand parts, the Pentium 4 1.5GHz costs $519. The 1.4GHz costs $375 and the 1.3GHz $268. Pentium III cuts are of a lesser magnitude and Xeons remain the same. The 900MHz mobile falls to $508, the 850MHz to $348, the 800MHz to $268 and 750MHz to $241.
The Register, quoting another site, reports that Advanced Micro Devices has followed suit, informing motherboard manufacturers of a range of reductions in chips sold in quantity. The 1.3GHz Athlon has been cut to $265, the 1.2GHz to $223, the 1.1GHz to $201 and the 1GHz to $170, The 900MHz Duron is down to $99, the 850MHz to $79, the 800MHz to $65 and the 750MHz to $55.
