Intel christens SpeedStep for mobile P3

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Intel's battery-saving technology for the mobile Pentium III - codenamed Geyserville - will be launched next year under the brand name SpeedStep.

The SpeedStep technology will lower power consumption while a notebook is running on its battery. Software will automatically switch the notebook into a power-saving mode that reduces the processor's clock speed and voltage.

The first mobile Pentium III chips, running at speeds of up to 500MHz, are expected to be announced Oct. 25. The introduction of SpeedStep won't occur until faster mobile Pentium III chips appear next year.
