Intel Brings Wireless Ethernet to Handspring Visors

by - source: Tom's Hardware

If you have to put your handheld computer on your desk and hook up a cable to check your email, doesn't that make it a desktop computer? To allow you to sit in that big easy chair in your corner office while you tap out messages, Intel's newly acquired Xircom unit has developed the SpringPort Wireless Ethernet module, a wireless LAN device for the Handspring Visor handheld computer. The module, which is slightly smaller than a deck of cards, plugs into the expansion slot on the back of your little computer. Intel says the module will provide up to 11 Mbps transfer rates within 300 feet of any installed access point on a WLAN and will set you back $299 (not including setting up your network for wireless). Xircom's put the information on their Web site at www.xircom.com/wireless .
