Report: TSMC Cranking Out Intel Atom SoC in Q4

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Earlier this week, Intel and TSMC announced an agreement that would see the Taiwan chip manufacturer would produce Atom-based System on Chip (SoC) technologies.

At the time of the announcement, neither company specified a time frame for when we’d start seeing fruit from the agreement. Digitimes cited industry sources in its report saying that TSMC would begin producing Atom-based solutions in Q4 2009 at the very earliest, meaning that consumers likely won’t even see any Atom SoC products until 2010.

"We believe this effort will make it easier for customers with significant design expertise to take advantage of benefits of the Intel Architecture in a manner that allows them to customize the implementation precisely to their needs," said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO, at this week’s announcement. "The combination of the compelling benefits of our Atom processor combined with the experience and technology of TSMC is another step in our long-term strategic relationship."
