Intel announces consumer electronics products
Intel Corp. has announced plans to strengthen its position in the consumer electronics market with a new portable audio player and portable Internet devices. The Pocket Concert Audio Player contains an FM radio and will play MP3 or Windows Audio Player formats. The company will also sell the ChatPad, a device similar to BlackBerry pagers that send and receive e-mail.
The consumer area has attracted an increasing number of electronics players as a way to grow in the face of computer market saturation. Intel's advantage, besides widespread name recognition, is access to its own components without even wholesale price markups.
