Intel: 10GHz processors by 2011

Intel is developing a host of new user interfaces and video-heavy applications for future PC processors it predicts will reach speeds of more than 10GHz by 2011.

Officials say the new technologies will enable the creation so-called "immersive" work areas featuring huge display screens and pattern and voice recognition software applications.

Intel engineers are also reportedly working on signaling technology that is ten times faster than the upcoming Pentium 4's 400MHz bus.
