Former cyber-security czar gets a new job with In-Q-Tel
Amit Yoran, the former cyber-security czar at the Department of Homeland Security, has been hired as the president and CEO of In-Q-Tel. Run by the CIA, In-Q-Tel provides venture capital to new technology companies. Yoran replaces In-Q-Tel’s previous CEO Gilman Louie.
Much in the same way DARPA jumpstarts technology research by providing research grants and cash prizes, In-Q-Tel is a non-profit private firm that invests in upcoming technology companies. Founded in 1999, the company has invested in several dozen and generally provides a few million dollars to each. Keyhole, the maps company bought out by Google, was one company along with several language software companies.
Yoran graduated from West Point and earned a master’s degree at George Washington University. He founded Riptech which was later sold to Symantec in 2002.
