Infra-Com's IrGate Short-range Wireless Prototype
We techies are an interesting bunch. One minute everyone is talking about how cell phones could cause brain cancer and the next minute everyone wants to rig up their house with wireless networks, shooting GHz of data throughout their homes. Then again, everything is probably bad for you. Life most certainly leads to death and we might as well enjoy as much convenience as we can. In the realm of wireless, Infra-Com Technologies is now showing off a prototype of its IrGT801A, a 10 Mbps wireless chipset for short-range applications, based on its IrGate technology. The IrGT801A is a physical layer chipset (PHY) that uses the IrGate Controller and its diffused IR infrared transceiver. Infra-Com says the IrGT801A chipset is intended for embedded applications devised for consumer electronic devices that need wireless connectivity to the web and between each other (set-top boxes, game consoles, internet appliances, audio-visual devices, PC peripherals and laptops, etc.). Even if someone finds out that wireless networking is bad for you, the stress of running cables everywhere probably shortens your life by a few years as well.
