Infineon and Saifun To Co-Develop Flash Memory

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Is high-capacity flash memory the next big thing? Yesterday , we heard about AMD developing 32-bit wide memory that the company boasts could even eliminate the need for DRAM in some applications. Now, Infineon Technologies and Netanya, Israel-based Saifun Semiconductors Ltd. have announced a joint venture, named Ingentix, that will develop, manufacture, and market flash-memory products based on Saifun's Nitrided read-only memory (NROM) technology. Currently, Saifun is a supplier of ICs for smart-card applications. The new venture will initially work on developing tiny memory cards and plans to introduce a product called the Flash-MultiMediaCard, with a memory capacity of 64 MB, in Q3 2002. Another story about the new Ingentix venture can be found on EETimes.com .
