Implantable GPS chips due next week

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Next week, Applied Digital Solutions (ADS) will demonstrate its Digital Angel chip. The device runs on body heat alone and can be used to locate anything or anybody via the Global Positioning System's satellite network. It can also relay biometric information about the wearer, including pulse rate and blood pressure, and can alert emergency personnel if readings indicate life-threatening levels. Permission for implanting the chip in humans is pending from the US Food and Drug Administration, but the chip will be sold as a wearable device in the mean time. As ADS is an e-commerce solutions company, it is likely that users will also be able, someday, to use the device for identification and payments.
