Imation Can Sell Black Watch DLT IV, Court Says
Oh my, I knew I shouldn't have started covering this little legal battle. These things go back and forth more than a tennis ball at a Wimbledon. `Twas only yesterday that I reported that Quantum won a preliminary injunction against Imation, and already Imation has put out a release saying that a ruling in California Superior Court, is denying a bid by Quantum to block Imation from selling Black Watch Digital Linear Tape IV cartridges. According to Imation, the latest ruling has no impact on the federal antitrust claims the company is pursuing against Quantum. Imation says the Court's requirement that Imation pay a 30% royalty during the interim is "recognition of Quantum's dependence on their unusually high royalty structure. This is the motivation for their illegal price fixing scheme and desperate attempts to keep Imation out of the market." Please let me know if you care how these legal actions proceed. I'm starting to get depressed seeing how my tax dollars are being put to work.
