Image Preview: Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Ship Simulator 2006
Welcome to another edition of TwitchGuru does screenshots. Today we're looking at Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and (wait for it...) Ship Simulator 2006, which is actually a more attractive prospect than it might at first sound.
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Just look at that water. No, don't fall in... ohh dear... graphicide
The Longest Journey was one of those games that, despite being considered one of (if not the) best adventure games of all time, sold so poorly that nobody really expected a sequel until it was announced that we'd be getting Dreamfall.
Sword, faith. Yes, yes I getcha. NOW LET'S FIGHT!
Developers Funcom are aiming for something of a revolution in the way we play adventure games by making Dreamfall an entirely 3D game with undertones of a third person adventure game. It won't be Lara Croft, but they're aiming to open up the scope of what you can do in an adventure game by physically opening up the world around you.
Ha! Damn... umm, a little help here? My uber-shield seems to have backfired
For example, they hope to get rid of the infamous "pixel hunting" that 2D adventure gamers are so familiar with in which you sometimes have to move the mouse over every inch of the screen in order to find a "cleverly" hidden essential item. Funcom has introduced the "focus field" which highlights items that your character can see and interact with.
