Take a guess: Who is chairing the revision of laptop battery standards?
The IEEE is forming a group to revise the IEEE 1625 standard for lithium-ion laptop batteries and guess which two companies will chair it ... wait for it ... Sony and Dell. These two companies have extensive experience in exploding batteries which makes them eminently qualified to chair the group.
Dude, your Dell just exploded...
Exploding batteries incidents have caused a massive recall of lithium-ion laptop batteries this year. Back in July, one of our loyal readers Henrik Gustavsson sent us amazing pictures of a co-worker’s Dell laptop that had caught on fire. Most of the batteries have been manufactured by Sony and sold to major laptop makers like Dell.
The group will meet in February in Asia and plans on completing its work in about 12 months.
