Internet Explorer 8 Final, Ready for Download
In recent times, Microsoft’s ubiquitous Internet Explorer has fallen behind.
Even with it being the default browser shipped on most of the world’s computers, Internet Explorer was losing ground to Mozilla’s Firefox, Apple’s Safari, and even Google’s Chrome.
The reason for IE’s slip was simple, and that’s because it was lagging behind the competition. Microsoft set out to bring back IE with a vengeance, and today’s the day of the official release of Internet Explorer 8.
"Customers have made clear what they want in a Web browser -- safety, speed and greater ease of use," said Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. "With Internet Explorer 8, we are delivering a browser that gets people to the information they need, fast, and provides protection that no other browser can match."
Early feedback from users of the IE8 beta and RC, as well as Windows 7 testers, is positive. Being that security is one of the top concerns amongst internet users, Microsoft boasts that a study released today by NSS Labs indicates that Internet Explorer 8 blocks two to four times as many malicious sites as other browsers on the market today.
Microsoft is pushing that its browser now among the fastest, saying that IE8 will beat top browsers in page load time on almost 50 percent of the 25 top comScore web sites. See a chart with speed comparisons here.
Internet Explorer 8 will be available for download here at noon EDT.

If it wasn't for the other companies M$ would have never of bothered. Too little too late!
any1 tried it yet? gunna download tonight. Im actually gunna give them a chance. Used firefox for years and hate IE7, but with the work theyve been doing on Windows 7 i think this could be a great browser.
ontop of that, its still not Compliant to CSS and HTML and everything else, they are at least a year behind other browsers.

Have been using IE8 Beta for a long time, it's a massive improvement over 7 in terms of speed and site compatibility. As a developer I have had to do a lot less work to make a site display properly in 8 than 7, that being said, it still won't display the same as the first builds (which always work in Firefox) so not perfect.
Just downloaded the final version, however only to get an error on install, the default Download button isn't detecting that I am on Vista 64 so downloaded the x86 file. Not very good by MS there and if that's happening to others is going to immediately create a negative reaction from any 64bit users!
I've been using ie8 beta as well and it's good. I hope Firefox dies
When will M$ learn. They say they dont want people to download torrents and pirated copies of things and then they go and bundle stuff in with updates.
I quite happily downloaded the update read the EULA without a mention of any other software. Then oh look on the last page it says the M$ malliscious software removal tool will be run during installation.
That cant be allowed can it ?? If they dont mention it in the EULA then thats at least very bad practice if not illegal WTF!!
Hell im properly pissed off now. I ran it once way back when it was first issued as an update and it wiped every single cookie/password i had saved on my PC. It took weeks to find all the info i needed for my sites. I have avoided it like the plague ever since.
So it can be as good a it likes im not using it !!!
Mactronix
got it now. first impressions....ALOT quicker than my firefox. may actually switch. Yet to encounter any problems.
Any bets on when the first patch will be released....
