IE users to receive cookie warnings
Consumers using the newest version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser will receive a pop-up warning whenever third-party Web sites - mainly advertisers - attempt to implant cookies on their computers.
The new feature, to be offered in the form of a patch to IE 5.5, will not affect other forms of cookies commonly used to provide services such as daily weather forecasts or other information on personal home pages.
Microsoft said the feature will be offered on all future versions of the software and should be available for download to most users within a month.
