IDT Clocks in With New Chips
Electronic devices generally can't just go "as fast as possible." Actions need to occur at a certain speed and in a certain sequence. Clock generators are the time keepers of digital functions. IDT's new clock generator family is targeted at high-performance communications and networking applications and generates specific clock frequencies for applications that include Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel. The three clock generators include a device with a single output and reference clock output, a device with four outputs, and a device with eight outputs, all of which support output frequency ranges from 50-160 MHz and input frequency ranges from 6.25-80 MHz. IDT says the clock generators provide low jitter and permit multiplication of the base frequency input by 2, 3, 4, 4.25, 5, 6, 6.25 and 8 (overclocking). An internal RC filter eliminates the need for external components, and their 3V- to 3.6V-operating voltage supports industry standard low-power applications. All of the devices are rated for industrial temperature ranges (-40 to +85 centigrade). The IDT5V925 and IDT5V927 are available in a 16-pin TSSOP package, while the IDT5V928 is available in a 24-pin TSSOP package. The IDT5V926 is currently sampling with production quantities available in early Q3 of this year. The IDT5V927 and IDT5V928 will sample in Q3 of this year. Volume pricing of the family begins at $2 for the IDT5V926, $4 for the IDT5V927 and $5 for the IDT5V928, based on 10,000-unit quantities.
