Rage Screens Released; PS3 Better Than X360

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

id Software released a new batch of screens from its upcoming FPS.

Tuesday id Software released a new batch of screenshots from the upcoming FPS for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Rage. Although the game was originally announced back in 2007, Rage may or may not hit retail stores by the end of the year--it's believed that it may not see a release until next year. Until then, we'll have to endure the random teases id dishes out.

Destructoid reports that id Software whipped out the latest build during last month's Bethesda Softworks press event. Apparently this was the first time anyone had seen a console version, as previous demos typically used the PC version of Rage (can't say "port," as that's not the case).

But no matter the platform, id's Tim Willits promises that id Tech 5 will offer true cross-platform technology. When asked about the PlayStation 3 version, Willits said that the PS3 demo was definitely an option for the event, but he opted for the Xbox 360 instead. "Our program director actually said 'Do you want to take the PS3? I think it's actually running better,'" he said.

Whats wrong with these software developers, they always hype up the ps3 version then it turns out worse.

I use all 3, and I can say every game that I have on both PS3 and Xbox 360 the PS3 looks better.
I cant say why, because I dont know same TV, it just looks much cleaner, the Xbox seams to blurr some things, were as the PS3 does not.

"where are the fanboys?"

Maybe just given up. After all the PS3 and 360 are both very old tech. If the game isnt coming out till next year it will just look even more long in the tooth. Who cares?

Can we have some new consoles announced for early next year please?

Why would you want new consoles already? the PS3 is barely 4 years old and hasn't begun to be maxxed out yet :S

I must have missed the new law that each new gen of consoles has a shorter life than the last...

Hell the Mega Drive (Genesis in US) was on sale for 10 years, it killed off the NES, outsold the SNES and was outselling the PS1 when sega pulled the plug (because it was also outselling the Saturn)

errr.....what? the graphics card in the PS3 was maxed out long ago but if you mean the cell then i'm sorry but the rest of the system bottlenecks so tbh the cell is crippled and useless. I'll actually bet money that the PS4 will also have the cell (or a revision which they'll claim is new).

So yeah you wont be seeing any more performance. Its been 4 years you really think that developers wouldnt have maxed out the potential? the tech is getting seriously old now and in the next couple of years they'll have to come out with a new console as they are dragging back the progression

Sony haven't maxed out the potential yet the 3D game firmware upgrade for the PS/3 is out soon and the 3D Blueray out by end of year. Can't see them planning a PS/3 sequel any time soon. Plenty of tinkering they can do before then, besides games developers have been crying out about how hard it is to code for so why introduce another console for them to moan about?

Hell I'm still playing Lego Star Wars II on my PS/2 ;-)

The PS3 is saddled though with the RSX. The RSX was a big mistake by Sony. Essentially now all the fancy graphics stuff is having to bypass the RSX and all be done in the Cell. It's working at the moment but its really going to bite soon having such a limitation going forward.

Yes we definately do need some new consoles soon. These current gen ones are decidedly 2004/5 spec. How many of us are still using a 7800GTX for our main PC gaming GPU? Not many I bet.

I think you'll find that the 3D on the consoles will rape the FPS to the point where it will only just be playable. I'm sorry but seriously the cell could be the most powerful processor in the world but aslong as its got no ram and a graphics card thats well outdated.

The RSX was not a mistake, at the end of the day sony spent so much on the cell its all they could afford. Its no reflection on Nvidia as tehy just made what was paid for. The cell was their biggest mistake, they should have settled for a less powerful processor and a better graphics card. A good system is a balanced system and the PS3 is far from balanced

Some good points. I guess we could also say they spread too much of the budget to provide blu-ray too.

So you end up with a decent CPU and advanced optical system but a limited obsolete GPU and limited system/memory bandwidth.
