IBM plans to expand direct sales through the Internet.

In May, the computer giant will set up a new web site, code-named Project Odyssey, to sell its entire line of PC products directly to small businesses and consumers, according to Business Week e.biz.

IBM isn't new to online sales. Last year, it sold $3.3 billion worth of high-tech gear online, ranging from disk drives to AS/400 minicomputers.

The majority of IBM's electronic-commerce revenue comes from sales of PC products, including computer servers, memory chips, and networking gear. Big Blue lost $992 million in PCs before taxes last year, according to the company's annual report.
