IBM pares down PC group
IBM Corp.'s Personal Systems Group will lay off up to 1,000 of its 10,000 employees.
The company may also pull out of many retail outlets next year, focusing instead on trying to build web sales for the money-losing unit.
Sources also report that the consumer manufacturing and marketing efforts - currently separate - will be merged into the rest of PSG.
