IBM OEMs to Acer
Reports indicate that IBM Corp. has reached an OEM agreement with Acer, in which IBM will provide hard disks and other technologies to the Taiwan-based company.
Although neither IBM or Acer have officially commented, the agreement is reported to cover five years, and includes a reciprocal agreement by IBM to buy PCs, notebooks, and thin clients manufactured by Acer. The deal is valued at $10 billion.
Acer has a longstanding relationship with IBM, which includes licensing of the OS/2 operating system for Acer servers, and support of the IBM chip-set technology on its motherboards.
