IBM develops switch-based virtualization
IBM is developing a smart-switch based storage virtualization tool that will rival both EMC Corp’s forthcoming Invista product and its own SVC software, according to multiple sources. Based on technology OEM’ed from start-up Incipient, the tool will not ship for some while, and according to one source will only begin beta testing in the first quarter next year, running on smart SAN switches made by Cisco Systems.
