IBM delivers low-cost Linux 'supercluster'
A new class of low-cost supercomputer from IBM will give researchers and developers access to peformance levels they previously could not afford.
The first such system, called Los Lobos, will be delivered to the University of New Mexico next month. Linked together using high-speed networking hardware, Los Lobos is actually a "supercluster" of 256 IBM Netfinity servers using the Linux operating system that will process at a speed of 375 gigaflops, making it one of the fastest supercomputers in the world.
