IBM accelerates PowerPCs
IBM Corp's Microelectronics Division has announced faster versions of its 750CXe family of PowerPC microprocessors. Though aimed primarily at embedded networking and imaging applications, Apple Computer Inc. uses the 750CXe in new models of its G3 iMac systems. A 700MHz version of the chip is due next May and, currently, the 400, 500 and 600MHz versions are priced in quantities at $57, $93.75 and $143.75.
