Step 4: Removing the AT&T Lock – Unlocking the iPhone for all Carriers
After the next reboot of the iPhone, another icon appears on the display, namely “unlock”. The actual process of removing the AT&T lock itself begins by launching this application. Again, we refer you to our image gallery for a step-by step walkthrough of how this part. After the program launches, the first thing it does is check whether all files required to implement the patch are present. Then the process of patching the iPhone firmware begins.
The following procedure took 18 minutes and 30 seconds on our iPhone – during this time, the screen does not update with any messages, so don’t lose your nerves. The first time the screen displays any new information is when the flash process has successfully completed. See our image gallery for more details.
Now the iPhone needs to be rebooted one more time. Don’t forget to insert your SIM card before this reboot. When the iPhone has finished starting up, you will be asked for you PIN Code for the first time – a clear sign that the AT&T lock is no longer in place. In our test, German SIM cards from the providers E-Plus, T-Mobile and Vodafone worked flawlessly.
