Sprint launches touch-screen phone
Dallas (TX) - Sprint is jumping on the bandwagon created by the iPhone, announcing it will release a handset with touch-screen and multimedia capabilities later this year.
The Touch phone will be exclusively available through Sprint. Manufactured by Taiwanese company High Tech Computer Corp, the Touch will include Sprint’s full array of PCS Vision services, including live mobile TV and over-the-air music downloading.
It will be Sprint’s first exclusive touch-screen phone. The market for touch input on mobile handsets ignited after Apple launched the iPhone. Previously, it only existed on high-end PDA phones and market watchers thought America was not ready for handsets with advanced technology.
The Touch will also feature the Windows Mobile operating system, which was updated earlier this year. The device will sell for around $250 after a $100 rebate and two-year activation plan.
