Unlocking hack appears for blocked iPhones

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

Cupertino (CA) - When a term like "bricked iPhones" shows up, it’s fairly obvious it won’t take long for hardcore hackers to find away around the restrictions.

Two weeks ago Apple issued a firmware update that included, in part, new software that rendered unlocked iPhones unusable. Sine then, hackers have been working fervently to find a way to disable the restrictions in the firmware, version 1.1.1.

Users began saying the update caused their phones to become "bricked" and unusable. Hackers now claim they have found a way to bypass the new restrictions and allow access back to unlocked phones

One hacker product, which retails online for up to $100, claims it "is now capable of completely restoring/repairing software unlocked ’bricked’ iPhone."

Apple will likely force another firmware update in the forseeable future that will knock down this hack as well, and the battle for iPhone unlocking will continue.
