16GB iPhone 4 Tops UK's Phone Charts
It’s taken 10 months for the white version to hit retailers but that clearly hasn’t stopped those in the market for a smartphone from scooping up the iPhone 4.
Android might dominate the market as far as OS is concerned but when it comes to the devices themselves, the iPhone 4 is the clear winner. According to comparison site uSwitch, the 16GB Apple iPhone 4 has topped the charts as the UK’s favourite phone. Jumping two spots over last month, the device robbed HTC of the number one spot in April. Second and third place were occupied by the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desire respectively. Fourth and fifth place were snagged by the Galaxy S II (based on pre-orders alone) and Galaxy S.
uSwitch, which ranks the most popular handsets based on live searches and sales, says that although HTC dominated the top ten this month, being beaten by Apple will take the shine off of that achievement.
“HTC may still be dominating the top ten, but the fact that iPhone has risen to number one for the first time will take some of the gloss off. And although the old favourites Apple and HTC are still the front runners, the battle for other spots in the top ten is on. The buzz around the Samsung Galaxy SII has been enough to push it up to 4th in the list based on just pre-orders - it’s not launched nationwide until 1st May.
“The biggest winners though are consumers. As the handsets do battle, prices of deals are being driven down. Even those who want smartphone functionality but are keen to keep an eye on the pennies will be happy.”
Though the iPhone 4 is currently the belle of the ball, the rumour mill has been churning out iPhone 5 reports for the last couple of weeks. The latest scuttlebutt has it that the phone will boast a dual-core A5 CPU, iOS 5 and the same design as the iPhone 4.
