iPhone 3.1 Jailbroken for Older iPods and iPhones

Those of you rocking a jailbroken iPhone will be pleased to know that Apple's most recent update to the phone's firmware has been cracked and is safe to install on older generation iPod touches as well as the iPhone 2G and 3G with the help of PwnageTool.

The Dev-Team is back but this time they're doing things a little bit differently. Like we mentioned above, the jailbreak tool will work for both 1G iPod touches, as well as the first iPhone and the 3G iPhone. However, the tool released today will not work with the newest versions of the iPod touch or the iPhone 3GS. Because of changes with Apple's update techniques, this is going to be a multipart release. The Dev-Team said in a blog post published earlier today that they will release a Pwnage tool for the 3GS and new iPod touch as soon as they have something ready.

This release starts with PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X - this application supports the iPhone 1st Generation (2G), the iPhone 3G and the iPod touch 1G. NB: THIS DOES NOT SUPPORT THE 3GS OR 2G/3G IPOD TOUCH. redsn0w for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime in the near future, please don’t bug us about it - we’ll release when we have something ready."
