HP Reported Close to Launch of new Handheld Device
Hewlett-Packard is reportedly planning to introduce a new iPaq handheld device, the iPaq h2200. The new device will use Bluetooth wireless networking connectivity and be manufactured by High Tech Computer of Taiwan. Other specifications are that the h2200 will be based on either a 200 MHz or a 400MHz Xscale Intel processor, with 64 MB SDRAM and 32MB of memory. Details of the h2200 were made available from a user manual draft filed with the F.C.C., which had to first approve the h2200 due to the Bluetooth wireless networking connectivity. Since the F.C.C. has granted approval, launch of the h2200 may be within several months.
The draft manual reportedly indicates that the h2200 is based on Microsoft's Pocket PC software and includes standard Pocket PC application software. Some models will also include Bluetooth and a Universal Remote Control for controlling home entertainment devices. HP offered neither denial nor confirmation of the details in the draft manual, nor any other information regarding the iPaq h2200.
