HP and Emachines Reach Patent Infringement Settlement
Hewlett-Packard Corporation announced Monday that it has reached a settlement in its patent infringement suit filed by former Compaq Computer against Emachines. The U.S. District judge hearing the case previously ruled that Emachines had infringed on nine of Compaq's patents and issued an injunction, which would have required removal and redesign of two infringing features from Emachines' computers. Both companies' representatives issued statements that the parties had reached an agreement to cross-license the intellectual property of the other, as well as other financial arrangements, which they declined to specify.
