HP, Dell: No zeal for Xeon
Hewlett-Packard is eliminating the Xeon from its workstation products, citing low customer demand.
Likewise, Dell will not be incorporating Intel's recently released 733MHz, 667MHz and 600MHz Xeons into its workstation line.
The lack of Xeon zeal appears to stem from Intel's hazy positioning of the high-end chip. Xeons cost more than standard Pentium IIIs, but do not offer a significant performance advantage, executives and analysts said.
