Amazon.com online shoppers can now pay for, pick up and return their amazon.com Internet purchases of books, CDs and DVDs at over 400 U.S. Borders Books retail stores. Borders was previously an online competitor with amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com, but Borders and other online "e-tailers" were unable to compete effectively with Amazon. Borders eventually entered into an agreement with amazon.com, with Amazon launching a co-branded Web site, borders.com. The two companies' new program, "Express In-Store Pick-Up at Borders," lets Amazon and Borders-link Internet shoppers choose whether to have their online purchases shipped to them or to pay for and pick up those online purchases at a local Borders store. Borders handles the sale and the shoppers pay taxes applicable to the sale, but no shipping costs. President of Borders retail stores and Borders online, Tami Heim, recently said, "It's a great time for book, music and movie lovers to further benefit from the alliance between Borders Group and amazon.com. Our new In-Store Express Pick Up option will be especially popular with last-minute holiday shoppers."
