Hitachi's Slim Bezel, 15" Flat Panel LCD

by - source: Tom's Hardware

In the world of monitors, slimmer is nice, lighter is good, but cheaper - along with decent performance - is what most of us are looking for. For around $400, Hitachi's CML153 flat panel display doesn't sound too far out of reach, especially if you're looking for a brand-name screen with a reasonably lengthy warranty. Hitachi's 15" CML153 TFT flat panel weighs 8 lbs and has a 23.7 mm left and right bezel width. Bezel width doesn't mean a heck of a lot to most of us, but those using multiple monitors have a penchant for stuffing them as close together as possible. The CML153 provides a full 15" viewing area (304 x 228 mm) along with bezel integrated speakers, a headphone jack, and volume control on the bezel. It meets the VESA FPMPMI (Flat Panel Monitor Physical Mounting Interface) standard, to let you use it with with third party mounting arms if you want to bolt it to your wall. Pixel pitch is .297 mm, with 200 nit typical brightness and a 300:1 contrast ratio. Maximum resolution is 1024 x 768 at 60 or 75 Hz. Available in ivory as the CML153 or in black as the CML153B, rest assured that picking one to match your curtains won't have an impact on performance. However, the CML153 is TCO '99 approved and the CML153B is TCO '95 approved (befuddling, but that's what Hitachi says). Both displays will ship to Hitachi distributors on November 12, 2001 and come with a 3 year warranty.
