Hitachi to cut 11% of its hard disk staff
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi) recently announced a series of manufacturing and development consolidations that will roughly reduce its 40,000-person global workforce by 11%.
As part of the company’s consolidation initiative, which it expects will save up to nearly US$300 million over the next five years, it will close its Guadalajara plant and create what it calls "centers of competency" for the development and production of sliders, head-gimbal assemblies (HGA) and media.
