Hearing aid isolates voices
A smart ear piece developed by the Norwegian SINTEF research lab for soldiers that need to communicate in environments filled with background noise like tanks and artillery placements may find a place in cell phones and other wireless devices. With the device in the ear, extraneous noises that interfere with conversation are filtered out by the device's electronics, making it unnecessary for the wearers to shout even in crowded bars and airplane cockpits. SINTEF has spun off NACRE, a company that will commercialize the technology next year. The company believes their technology will allow cell phones to filter out all sounds but voices when users are calling from noisy environments.
