Hassleblad has rolled out a 39-megapixel camera back called the H2D-39. The H2D-39 will have a 2.2 OLED display and can save the pictures directly to a hard-drive. Pictures will be compressed with Hasseblad’s new RAW format, 3F RAW, which can shrink photos to two-thirds of their original size.
Unlike regular digital cameras, the camera back is a separate unit that is attached to the back of a high-end camera. Users must separately buy or already own the viewfinder and lenses. While there is no word about what sensor is being used, it may be Kodak’s KAF-39000 CCD. Back in October TG Daily covered about Kodak’s launch of the 39 megapixel CCD sensor.
The H2D-39 will be available sometime in the first half of 2006 and will cost around $40,000.
