Handheld Multimedia Moves Closer to Reality

by - source: Tom's Hardware

Mobile phone users may be getting one more option to help them create death and destruction on the nation's highways: video. Texas Instruments is now giving mobile phone app developers OMAP-based multimedia extensions that can be used with Symbian's SDK for wireless voice/data combo devices. The platform is current being slated for use by Nokia, Ericsson, Sony, and other mobile phone developers who use TI's digital signal processors in their gadgets. The new TI extensions will include multimedia service APIs for applications such as video, speech, and audio services. If by some odd twist of fate you like the idea of more reasons to be annoyed by mobile phone users, then, start developing multimedia apps for them. For the programming savvy among you, you can download the Symbian SDK from the Symbian Developer Network and TI's OMAP extensions from the OMAP Developer Network .
