Halo 2 Officially Announced - No Details on Possible PC Release
Bungie announced the release today of Halo 2 at the XO2 Convention in New York. For those eagerly awaiting this release, they will not be disappointed. Halo 2 is not just a sequel to the original Halo, but has been rewritten with a completely new graphics engine for more stunning realms to explore than ever before. There are new weapons and new battle vehicles, in addition to the old standards in Halo, and the Covenant now has its own army of enemies that you must face.
Microsoft announced that Halo 2 would be available exclusively for the Xbox during the holiday season of 2003. The game itself is slated to ship in the fourth quarter of 2003 and will feature an online play engine via the Xbox Live Service. While Microsoft didn't reveal any specifics about the game's multiplayer online capabilities, we are certain more information will be available before Halo 2's release. A variety of screen shots from the Halo 2 trailer are available for viewing many places on the Internet.
The biggest disappointment in Microsoft's announcement concerning Halo 2 was perhaps the fact that Microsoft refused to provide any details on possible conversion efforts for a PC version. This is not surprising, however, as Microsoft only recently announced that the original Halo will be available for the PC and Mac this summer. We can expect a similar time frame for Halo 2 after its release on Xbox.
