Half-Life 2 Launches on Mac With 1984 Commercial

by - source: Tom's Hardware UK

30 percent off Half-Life 2 and Orange Box too!

Steam launched on the Mac OS X platform earlier this month, and today Mac users are finally graced with the opportunity to play one of the finest PC games of all time without having to Boot Camp into Windows.

Valve today launched Half-Life 2 for the Mac and is putting it up for sale at 30 percent off at $6.99. Of course, we recommend that you pay $20.99 for the equally discounted Orange Box bundle and get Half-Life 2, Episodes One and Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2. It was the best value in gaming when it launched at more than twice the price and it's an even better value now.

To celebrate the new release, Valve has released a new teaser ad that recreates the famous 1984 Apple ad but with fresher faces. Check it out below.

Valve seem to take this very seriously - even giving away something as silly as a playful video shows commitment to the community.

Fingers-crossed this works out.

Even Apple-tards have mice and keyboards, so it all has to help stem the time of console-based twitch titles...

So finally Gaming has come to Mac, 30 years after it's launch, 20 years after Windows.

didnt the original halflife come out on the PC around about 1984? seems only appropriate that the advert should be from that time as well....

But seriously - the Mac is not going to suddenly be a cutting edge gaming platform just because it's got a few (admittedly good) but old games released for it....

No, but this may drive manufacturers and Apple to get decent GPUs into Macs - EVGA have a GTX285 for the Mac but that's about it.
