No New Half-Life This Year? (Say It Isn't So!)

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Gordon Freeman to hang back for another year, it seems.

For those of us who have been playing Half-Life since the very beginning, we know that we have to wait for the sort of quality that the premiere PC developer delivers in its flagship series.

Half-Life 2 going episodic was supposed to allow for the developer to make smaller, shorter games that would be served more often. So, it's been more than two years since HL2: Episode Two's release on October 10, 2007, meaning that we're due for Episode Three sometime this year, right? Sadly, maybe not.

According to the February 2010 issue of Game Informer, as read by Cinema Blend, there will not be any new Half-Life games this year. It's unclear what the magazine's sources are, but we're awaiting a comment from Valve.

Of course, no new Half-Life game from Valve doesn't mean that we won't see anything at all from the developer. There's always the chance of another Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead, or Portal expansion.

what a load of old s**te. i played Episode 2 on release day and had it clocked by the 11th. so this basically means i'll have waited 3+ years for another 4 and a half hours of gameplay. worst bit is: i have team fortress and left 4 dead and portal. TF got played for ten minutes and declared utter bol**cks, left 4 dead is ok, nowt fabulous. Portal was fabulous, a sequel would be good, but still, valve are taking the piss big time with this. my copy of EP3 will most definately be a pirate copy.... well, if the pizza boy brought your 12" meat feast 3 years late, would you pay? would you fuck.

"there's always a chance of another team fortress, left for dead, or portal expansion" - team fortress is gonna last for years and years before they make another, the whole style of the game is made so it wont look dated in 10 years time so no way thy gonna release another one this year. that being said they have promised further large updates to the game past the final class update. I doubt they will release a new left for dead tbh, seen as they got a lot of criticism for l42 being released only a year after the first. Plus l4d2 didn't really bring anything drastically new to the table so I don't see how there is scope for a new one so soon. I think were most likely gonna see a new portal expansion/game, atleast i hope so

4,5h of game play and they are amazed that people are not paying 40 to 60 € for it. i am amazed that people are paying for it.

I tried to enjoy HL but just couldn't get into it. TF2, Portal, L4D and L4D2 are all great games. As long as they keep getting supported I'll be happy.

I'll keep waiting, HL2 episodes are those epin games you can play over and over again. As for TF2, that was ruined by the class packs. and Portal was...
well Oxford has to update their definition of perfect to
"the cake is not a lie"
VALVe make some fucking fantastic games, STEAM is a great system from them.
Hey maybe Episode 3 will come with a major engine overhaul? we can hope right?

I think they could at least release 1 game per year, I would be happy, not L4D3 of course.
