Half-Life 2 Graphics MODernized With Extra Shine

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Want HDR? Want the updated Orange Box Engine? Want new Models and Textures! Mod to the HL2 rescue!

A first-person-shooter that looks better on a console than on the PC? Blasphemy! But that's the way things were for Half-Life 2 and HL2: Episode One, which when ported to the Xbox 360 as part of the Orange Box, received several graphical upgrades.

PC gamers longing for the upgraded experience needn't wait any longer, as modder Filip Victor took matters into his own hands and created a mod which bumps Half-Life 2 up to slightly more modern times.

Half-Life 2 Update Mod Features:

↗ Updated to Orange Box Engine.

↗ HDR (HighDynamicRange) Lighting.

↗ Updated Models & Textures.

↗ Includes 32 Steam Achievements.

Check out the YouTube comparison here. (Be sure to view it in one of the HD formats for a better look!)

There isn't any official comment or word yet on whether or not Valve approves of this mod, so those of you wishing to revisit one of the best PC games of all time with a fresh spit-shine should check out the download links here.

@MAC_HATER: Check out Freeman's Mind for a refreshment:

Otherwise: Is the PC Orange Box different from the XBOX360 Orange Box? Meaning, does the PC Orange Box NOT contain the improvements? Or what?

If I'm not mistaken the orage Box contain HL; HL ep 1 and HL ep2 as well as team fortress. It did not contain the mod discussed above.

Will this mod influence Team Fortress?

There was a mod i used to play ages ago called Cinematic Mod.
It did change the game a bit too, the AI responded a little better to how you work but it was still the same game. Looked awesome too.

VALVe usually doesn't usually interfere with the operation of 3rd party mods unless they break the TOS, ie; Giving another game away for free. This just makes HL2 prettier, GMOD does that too.

* By "GMOD does that too" I mean you can load HL2 levels up in GMOD!

Look for FAKEFACTORY's Cinematic Mod 10 - weighing in at 10GB it dramatically increases detail for HL2, Ep1 and Ep2 and has different Alexs.
