Hackers poised to launch massive Web attack?
An estimated 2,000 computers worldwide are infected with a malicious program that could soon be used to launch a major denial-of-service attack designed to shut down Web sites, security experts warned.
Network Security Technologies said hackers using the nicknames "Serbian" and "Badman" planted a file disguised as a movie clip on the computers that can be used to turn them into "zombie" machines, running the program without any visible clues to the user. Other analysts, however, said the so-called 'video virus' does not pose a significant threat.
