Report: New Intel Desktop Chips Coming Soon
New things coming soon, according to Taiwan.
Intel typically doesn't let on about new processor models until launch time, but motherboard makers have to know before the market does so that it can prepare the hardware and BIOS to support the new chips.
According to DigiTimes' sources at motherboard companies, Intel will be rolling out new desktop options along with some lower price points.
Supposedly coming this month is the hexacore Core i7-970 at $885. Also this month will be a pair of Core i5 chips, the i5-870S and the i5-760 at $350 and $205, respectively.
Then in August, a Core i3-560 will debut at $138, while the Core i7-950 will fall from $562 down to $294.
Intel will also be rolling out new Pentium and Celeron value-oriented chips throughout the summer and fall. Check out the full list here.

Wow Intel I have an i7 920 and you keep making more new intel processors, seriously I should've waited longer to buy a cheaper i7 920 but whatever, how much processors are there going to be?
Binning, better yields from the wafers for higher clocking, etc... same Intel (which is good that they "improve" on their product) but the prices still don't seem to be as value oriented as AMD.
Yeah, that's the problem with new tech...
When dual core came buy, I didn't buy right away because there's always an other generation coming out (core 2 duo)
although im not too sure about i3-i5-i7...
im gona wait till 6 core cpu's becoem aforadable from intel then im gona buy a quad core from them, probably core i7-930

It's called progress and maintaining a product line. If you kept waiting for the next big thing you'd NEVER buy anything.
There's nothing wrong with your 920 - just give it an overclock if you feel hard done by that the slightly faster 950 is coming down in price.
i'm just about to go i7. will i wait because of this news? no.
i'd spend my life waiting.
I haven't even moved onto i7 yet
But this is great, it'll knock em down when i do eventually move up.
People moaning about product releases miss the point of advancement altogether. Just be thankful you have ANY processors. I'm on an old Intel Duo, but it's still worth what I paid for it!
lol at that, I was on a celeron 3.07 Ghz on air cooling, I guess that is a very major change for me

Not sure what stock chart you're watching but not on eBay it ain't! I paid $200 for my e8400 2 years ago and I was able to sell it for $79 on Ebay, fully functioning like new. As disciminating consumers, we have to act like watchdogs to make sure we don't get too gouged by Intel. BTW, after buying a string of Intel CPUs, my last CPUs were AMD's X4 955BE and X6 1055T. Why? Better value than what Intel offered in the price range!
