Nvidia GTC 2010: GPUs for 3D Audio, Robot Cars
The wrap up of GPU Technology Conference.
Nvidia's GPU Technology Conference wrapped up for 2010. While we may think of GPUs being the key driver of our graphics – particularly our games – there's some very serious applications that take advantage of the GPUs strengths over traditional CPUs.
Here's a wrap up from the final day:
Nvidia GTC 2010
Cancer Research and Supercomputing
Sportvision Augmented Reality Enabled by GPU Computing
Fireside Chat with Jen-Hsun Huang and Quentin Hardy

GPUs for cancer research, code-breaking, Robotics and frying eggs.
I wish nVidia would go back to making GPUs for 3D gaming! I'm itching to ditch my G92-generation card and mighty sick of waiting for them to replace Thermi with a decent GFX card!

If you want to get a new gaming card with reasonable thermals, why not go for ATI this time? It's not like they will kill you or something... Times that ATI had crappy drivers are long gone, so why not try it?
And besides, I certainly don't think that they should stop spending time and effort on scientific computing. If there's one area where informatics is helping to shape the future, it's there. Why leave Intel and AMD to all the fun when GPU's are such marvellous number crunchers?
