Google releases embedded Google Talk gadget
Mountain View (CA) - Google has released an HTML script that Web designers and Myspace users alike can use to embed the Google Talk application into a web page.
Google Talk was originally released as a PC application, but it failed to take any market share away from other leaders like AIM and MSN Messenger. The new "gadget" displays the Google Talk interface in a Flash media player that requires no additional downloads.
The Flash-based version of the program does not offer the full functionality of the actual application, but Google hopes it can create brand awareness by allowing embedding to sites like Myspace, which lets users customize their profile with HTML scripts.
Google also last year added a software-free "chat" function to its popular free e-mail service, Gmail. There’s also a mobile version of Google Talk.
