Judge rules that Google can use free speech protections to block ads

by - source: Tom's Hardware

A federal judge has ruled that Google use free speech protections to block the posting of offensive ads. U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Farnan said the search giant has a First Amendment right to reject ads. This is the same type of protection newspapers have in blocking ads in their classifieds sections.

Christopher Langdon sued Google in Delaware court after Google refused to publish ads which criticized politicians and the Chinese government. Google is trying to break into the Chinese search engine with Google.cn and has promised Chinese authorities to self-censor content.
