GM to award outsourcing contracts valued at $15 billion on Thursday
General Motors (GM) will unveil on Thursday what is considered to be the most lucrative IT outsourcing contract package given out by a US company in years.
EDS was GM’s primary IT service company over the past ten years and had control over virtually any IT aspect within GM. Instead of renewing the contract, which expires on June 6, GM decided to invite several other companies to compete for the business, which is valued at $3 billion per year and a period of five years.
EDS is expected to lose significant portions of its current work to IBM, Cisco System, Hewlett-Packard and Capgemini.
