Glendale, CA going wireless
Glendale, a suburb just north-east of Los Angeles, is going wireless. The City Council voted on Tuesday to request proposals to make a city-wide Wi-Fi network. Tourists, residents and businesses would be able to access the network for a "reasonable fee", according to Steven Hronek, the city’s communications director.
The city hopes to partner up with a wireless service company to build the network and sell service. Residents would be charged for wireless, while city employees would get discounted or free access. Companies have until November 30th to send in their proposals.
Several Southern California cities currently free wireless access including Culver City, Hermosa Beach and Long Beach.
